Western Plains top cop escapes jail for ‘ingenious plan’ to pervert course of justice

The head of Western Plains Fraud Squad Robert McSlutty has been cleared of all charges after admitting that he had failed to disclose he was having sandwiches on a regular basis with the prime suspect in a fraud investigation at Western Plains Zoo.
Defence lawyer Kylie Zelic said her client had shown poor judgement in having a sandwich at the Zoo but argued that for McSlutty to have hatched an ‘ingenious plan’ to pervert the course of justice, he would have to have known what justice was in the first place.
In handing down his verdict the judge said ‘Yeah mate, fair call, case dismissed’.
